INTRO: Museum Wibergis is an upcoming city museum placed in Viborg’s beautiful cathedral quarter, opening in 2026. This attraction tells a new story about Viborg: It’s the story about a city which became the gathering place for power over 1000 years because of kings, churches and laws.
The one-thousand year long and alluring story of Viborg’s power and citizens – with a special placing in Jutland and a unique significance for the Danish History – is presented chronologically and leads the visitors through the important and decisive events which happened in Viborg.
The museum experience is designed and organized as an atmospheric experience, where knowledge and relics from bygone times are lifted onto a world full of animation, striking colors, lights and sounds, and as a social experience, where a whole family together get piqued their curiosity for the unique history of Viborg. Drawing on the aesthetic qualities of the fine, old High Court buildings, the whole museum is designed with a mindfulness of historicity it represents and is surrounded by.
EXHIBITION:
The exhibitions are presented as a beautiful and scenographic world, filling the senses, and will consist of about 40 audiovisual experiences. Here animation and soundscapes are used to support the museum’s storytelling alongside artefacts, architecture and graphics. With consistency with the museum’s artistic vision, ensuring a cohesive aesthetic throughout, each audiovisual experience is crafted with its own distinct style, aiming at an experience where you can let history embrace you and be caught by the story of objects, the music’s atmosphere, the animation’s imagery and the effect of the colors.
COLLABORATION: ORTO AV team, consisting of Sia Søndergaard (producer), Martina Scarpelli (creative director) and Lars Hemmingsen (technical director), are creating animated narratives for the permanent exhibition opening in 2026. To review spatial designs and assist decision-making, the team incorporating VR technologies in the development process.
